A Little Bit About Bert

Bert was born in Hawaii and in his early teens traveled to the Southwest Pacific area where we went to school in the mountain city of Baguio, Republic of the Phillippines. After two years there he returned to the states and lived in southern California until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy. After ten years service he left the Navy and moved to Washington D.C. where he was hired into a small industrial security agency, where within 6 months he became one of the senior officers and the Client procuror and liasion. Bert then moved to south Florida and finally to the Bay Area.

Music has always been a love and part of Bert's life and in the years after the Navy he learned the guitar. He played for pleasure and finally was in a position to accept a "gig" and that was what brought him here today. Bert was with Burley Hill, a Celtic Band as lead singer and rythynm guitarist. Through a mutual friend Bert was introduced to John Kelly owner of Hideaway Recording Studios and as the adage goes, it was "Katie bar the door." Bert has recorded three Celtic Cds using "traditional" songs. His Celtic interest began about 12 years ago as he pursued his Scots-Irish heritage.

Bert belongs to several Celtic organizations and is one of the ten founding members of New World Celts, a non-profit organization which promotes celtic heritage and interest which is now truly international with Chapters as far away as Tasmania and Japan. He is also a member of American Legion Post 238, Safety Harbor, Florida.

Bert's interests include fencing, riding, dancing and of course music. He has a fine appreciation of Fine Liquors, beers, lagers, ales, etc. and enjoys the company of like minded celts and of course likes the lassies.
